Duties

The successful candidate will work cooperatively with the Geomatics Coordinator to:
• Write data processing scripts to standardize data organization and geoprocessing
• Create high quality cartographic templates and field maps for navigation with ArcGIS
• Design and process positional information using data dictionaries, GPS receivers and software for differential correction
• Create raster catalogues, orthorectify air photos, work with UAV, LiDAR, and other remote sensing data
• Design databases
• Create training materials for staff
• Analyze ecological and species at risk data
• Organize and map Search & Rescue and emergency response data
• Field data collection for various projects, as required

If you have a passion for geomatics, enjoy working with diverse and challenging datasets, and would enjoy a summer in coastal BC, then this job is for you! We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated student to assist with our Geomatics program. You would apply your geomatics skills and expertise to the Resource Conservation Unit, assisting with natural and cultural resource mapping, as well as safety and emergency response.

Intent of the process

Post-secondary students currently registered in a full-time College or University program who will be returning to full-time studies in the fall.
Degree equivalency
Applied experience in GIS and remote sensing analyses, word processing, spreadsheet and database programs

Knowledge of:
- Geodessy, vertical datums, and conversions
- Data collection with mapping grade GPS or total station
- Cartography and spatial analysis
- 3D Analysis and modeling

- Relational database concepts and how they apply to geomatics data
Creative and innovative approaches to problem solving

Ability to work co-operatively with other team members in a multidisciplinary environment

Ability to explain technical geomatics concepts to co-workers

Ability to prioritize tasks and estimate the amount of time to completion

Reliability Status security clearance - Reliability Status security clearance is required.
Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver License
