Duties

The duties successful candidates can expect to perfom include but are not limited to:

• Performing inspections and evaluations of animals, their products, facilities, processes and other related activities;
• Explaining program requirements and inspection findings to clients and other parties;
• Advising clients of inspection on findings, noting areas of deficiency and directs or participates in determining corrective or enforcement action required;
• Collecting and preparing samples for subsequent laboratory analysis to test for residues, disease agents and contaminants in food products, and animals;
• Maintaining inspection manuals/memos, client files, travel and activity logs.

A qualified pool of candidates will be established. This pool of candidates may be used to staff positions with similar qualifications, with various language requirements, various conditions of employment and/or various tenures including term appointments, indeterminate appointment, acting appointments and/or assignments.

EEX1: Experience in the food, plant and animal industries or a related agriculture industry; AND
EEX2: Experience using computer software (word processing, spreadsheet, and email).

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance
The following conditions of employment are required for an appointment from the pool:
• Adherence to the CFIA Code of Conduct.
• Adherence to the CFIA Conflict of Interest and Post-Employment Policy.
• Compliance with the Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector.
• Legal status to accept employment for the entire period of employment.

Any of the following conditions of employment may be required for an appointment from the pool:
• Successful medical clearance;
• Valid driver’s licence;
• Willingness and availability to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays;
• Willingness to work irregular hours and overtime;
• Willingness to travel (including overnight stays);
• Mandatory use of all prescribed safety materials, equipment, devices and clothing.
