This position is part of the Richard Nixon Library, National Archives and Records Administration. As an Archives Technician with Audiovisual (AV) functions at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum and performs duties that include reference services, arrangement, description, and preservation of the Library's audiovisual archival holdings, and digitization and automation activities.

As a Archives Technician (AV), GS-1421-07, your typical work assignments will include the following under supervision:
Carry out assignments relating to the processing of audiovisual archival records, including arrangement, description, digitization, preservation, and reference, ensuring that these procedures are performed in a cost-effective manner. Assists in arranging audiovisual archival collections. Prepares, revises, and enhances descriptions of audiovisual collections and individual items therein.
Performs related data entry, creates and supplies computer generated labels, and creates finding aids. Perform digitization of audiovisual materials. This may include digitizing entering or updating metadata, data migration and backup, assistance in providing audiovisual content for the Library's website and NARA Catalog, and description of historical materials in online indexes or databases.Obtain information and prepare responses to informational reference requests.
Respond to reference requests from researchers and assist onsite researchers, informing them orally, electronically, and in writing about the Library's audiovisual archival holdings and policies regarding their use; historical information about these holdings; and information about the Library and NARA.
Produce or retrieve digital copies (video, audio or still image) for reference requests and processe purchase requests. Identify and analyze preservation requirements for audiovisual archival materials and recommend and/or take appropriate action in accordance with procedures, guidelines, and goals established by agency.

Qualifications
GS-07 - Candidates must have had one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level of Federal service that has included such activities as independently performing or overseeing audiovisual archival processing activities such as arrangement, description, digitization, preservation, and reference; utilizing information technology applications; and providing reference service to others or overseeing a research room. Technical proficiency preferred in at least one of the following: proper handling of original videotapes, audiotapes, films, and/or photographic materials; performing quality control for digital video, audio, and/or photographic surrogates; operating equipment such as video and audio decks, flatbed scanners, and/or digitization computer workstations; metadata creation and/or digital asset tracking; performing data backups.
Education may be substituted for experience. GS-07: one-half year of graduate level coursework in a related field such as archival science and records management.
Combination of Experience and Education: You may use a combination of your graduate education and experience to meet the total experience requirements of the GS-07 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
