The position serves as the Administrative Officer to the Medical Service and as such is totally responsible for the administration of the Service. This responsibility includes serving as administrative liaison with top management and the chiefs of all other services throughout the Medical Center and maintenance of necessary contacts with outside agencies, VA Central Office, etc. The position has delegated authority to speak for and act in behalf of the Service Chief, crossing organizational lines on all administrative matters pertaining to the Service. The position is located at the VA Medical Center in New York, NY. Some of the duties include;
- Formulation of long and short range plans regarding the needs of the Service;
- Serving as the focal point for the dissemination of all information within the service; reviews all incoming correspondence directed to the Service Chief and independently prepares responses and/or provides follow-up when necessary;
- Prepares and submits recurring and non-recurring Service reports in all management areas, as required;
- Prepares the Medical Service for accreditation inspections such as JCAHO, SIRP, etc.;
- Develops service policies to implement VA regulations regarding budget, personnel, time and leave, etc.;
- Analyzes all personnel costs by performing systematic reviews or internal audits on the following: leave without pay usage, time and leave usage, overtime, and unplanned leave usage;
- Provides guidance for numerous Medical Service supervisors on such Personnel issues as classification of position descriptions;
- Provides guidance and follow-through on adverse Personnel actions involving Medical Service staff members;
- Conducts position classification and management reviews;
- Manages incentive awards program to motivate Service personnel;
- Is the Service liaison for the resolution of fiscal and supply problems;
- Serves as Budget Analyst responsible for formulating the annual budget submission;
- The employee performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8am-4:30pm
