Basic Requirements for Social Worker
Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) or I will have one by the end of July 2017 in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
To qualify for the GS-09:
Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience includes performing duties such as assisting in treatment to child/adolescent patients with developmental disabilities, depression/anxiety, self-injurious behavior, and/or trauma under direct supervision; assisting in providing individual, group and family therapy with children and adolescents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Master's degree (or equivalent graduate degree) or I will have one by the end of July 2017, 2 years (36 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree directly related to this position from an accredited college or university. Note: you must attach your transcripts with your application package.
OR
Combination of specialized experience described, but less than 1 year; and less than 2 years (36 semester hours) of graduate education. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond 1 year (18 semester hours) by 18. Add the 2 percentages. Note: For the purpose of qualifications, 1 year of graduate education is equivalent to 18 semester hours. Note: you must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package.
To qualify for the GS-11:
Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience includes performing duties such as assisting in treatment to child/adolescent patients with developmental disabilities, depression/anxiety, self-injurious behavior, and/or trauma under direct supervision; assisting in providing individual, group and family therapy with children and adolescents; and utilizing electronic health record systems for documentation, peer review, and scheduling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree), 3 years (54 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree directly related to this position from an accredited college or university. Note: you must attach your transcripts with your application package.
OR
Combination of specialized experience, but less than 1 year; and less than 3 years (54 semester hours) of graduate education. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond 2 years (36 semester hours) by 18. Add the 2 percentages. Note: For the purpose of qualifications, 1 year of graduate education is equivalent to 18 semester hours. To qualify for the GS-12:
Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience includes performing duties such as providing treatment to child/adolescent patients with developmental disabilities, depression/anxiety, self-injurious behavior, and/or trauma with minimal supervision; providing individual, group and family therapy with children and adolescents; making diagnoses based on comprehensive mental health evaluations, and utilizing electronic health record systems for documentation, peer review, and scheduling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience at the GS-12 level permitted.
License Requirement: The Social Worker position requires a current, active, valid, and unrestricted independent clinical licensure or you must have one by the end of July 2017 from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction. (Note: You must provide a copy of your current, active, valid, and unrestricted social worker license with your application).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
