Summary
This vacancy announcement will be open from May 9, 2018 to May 15, 2018 or when 100 applications have been received. The vacancy will close on whichever day the first of these conditions are met. The Pathways Internship Program targets students accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a qualifying educational program in an accredited institution, on a full or half-time basis with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. Applicants must meet the definition of "student" in order to be considered for this opportunity. Internship appointments under the Internship Experience Program (IEP) are non-temporary and can last the duration of the student's academic program. This will be determined at the time of selection. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules.
At the successful conclusion of the program, interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position in the competitive service. Conversions to the competitive service are not guaranteed.
Pathways candidates must meet the DOS qualification standards applicable to the position being filled. All applicants must meet the qualifications by the closing date of this announcement.

These positions are located in the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO).
OBO/RM/EX/HR The Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO), Deputy Director for Resource Management (RM), Office of the Executive Director(EX), Human Resources Division (HR) is responsible for providing the full range of human resources/personnel services for OBO, including recruitment ,staffing, position management, performance management ,employee and labor relations, work force diversity and employee benefits to employees of the Civil Service(CS) and Foreign Service(FS) as well as Personal Service Contractors (PSC) and Third Party Contractors (TPC).
As a Student Trainee (Office Automation) GS-03, you will:
Performs office automation duties using such software applications as electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, spreadsheet, database, and/or graphics, to track Congressional correspondence. Performs electronic file maintenance work including: updating and maintaining computer files and inventory; making backup copies; establishing and maintaining a uniform identification and archive library system; updating and maintaining all manuals, references books, and operating handbooks, and guidelines; maintaining appointments, calendars, schedules; schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences. Based on the subject matter of the meeting, arranges for meeting and small conference administrative details.
Operates a word processor or electric typewriter, to prepare a variety of narrative and tabular material (e.g. correspondence, reports, technical papers, charts, statistical tables, manuals, travel orders, messages and other documents) involving the common terminology of the office for which the work is done and requiring accuracy in spelling, grammar, and syllabication. Work is either performed in draft or final form. Refers to technical dictionaries, textbook research reports, or similar material as reference tools to facilitate assignments. Assures the propriety of formats, spacing, arrangements, and preparation of typed material infinal form as prescribed by style manuals. Uses judgment regarding form and arrangement of statistical or tabular material involving numerous headings and subheadings.
Selects, rearranges, and consolidates from a number of source documents based on instructions. Maintains a variety of office files. Receives visitors and telephone calls and refers them to proper person or furnishes information requested. Routes, controls, and distributes mail and other office communications in accordance with established procedures and knowledge of the organization and assigned personnel.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Must be at least 16 years of age by the closing date of the announcement.
- Must maintain student eligibility for duration of internship.
Pathways Internship Program candidates must meet the U.S. Department of State (DOS) qualification standards applicable to the position being filled. All applicants must meet the qualifications by the closing date of the announcement in order to be considered for the position.

- 16 years or older by the closing date of this announcement;
- Enrolled or formally accepted for enrollment as a full-time or half-time student into an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program, or enrolled or formally accepted for enrollment in a certificate program;
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 at time of application and must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA throughout the entire Pathways Internship appointment; and
- Degree does not have to be related to the position/series; however to be eligible, candidate must meet the agency-developed or OPM qualification standards for the position to which the Intern may be converted.
- All transcripts or educational supporting documentation must reflect a projected graduation date on or after Spring 2019.
Certificate Requirements:
- Undergraduate Certificates must contain a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.
- Graduate certificates must contain a minimum of 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours.
- For study at a business or technical school, 36 weeks of study (20+ classroom hours per week) is comparable to 1 academic year above high school.
All academic degrees and course work must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
