Correctional Officer Applicant Inventory CORRECTIONAL OFFICER (GROWTH SERIES) Salary: $41,803.67 - $57,781.28 annually, plus a Temporary Market Adjustment ($39,575.90 annually for new recruits during the 33 day training program) Multiple full-time positions available at Correctional Centres located in the Lower Mainland, Kamloops, Prince George, Victoria and Nanaimo. This posting is to establish a pre-qualified pool of applicants (applicant inventory). We are currently looking to fill full-time positions; however, this inventory may be used to fill future full-time and part-time positions as they become available. An eligibility list may be established. Applicant inventories are used to streamline the recruitment experience. Be a Role Model, Be a Peace Officer - Join BC Corrections Adult Custody Division, BC Corrections BC Corrections plays a leading role in British Columbia’s criminal justice system by protecting the community through offender management and control. Corrections Branch manages community work service and supports offenders to make positive changes in their behaviour and attitudes. Adult Custody Division is one of four Corrections Branch divisions and is responsible for the care of approximately 2,800 male and female adult inmates throughout B.C. The Division operates correctional centres with various levels of security and control for individuals awaiting trial or serving a provincial custody sentence of up to two years less a day. Correctional programs address inmates’ thought patterns, behaviour and lifestyles that are known to contribute to crime. Correctional centres provide programs and additional services that balance risks and needs, ensure links with community corrections based on common core programming and integrated case management, communicate with stakeholders and participate as a pro-active partner in our criminal justice system. Role of a Correctional officer As a Correctional Officer, you will rotate through various posts and departments. With leadership from department supervisors, you will be responsible for maintaining security, safety, good order, discipline and care of adult inmates by providing orientation, direction, guidance and programming. The focus is on engaging inmates in a pro-social environment that provides maximum opportunity for change in a setting that is productive and supportive and where they are treated in a respectful, fair and equitable manner. NOTE: The Correctional Officer position has a peace officer designation, so is held to a high standard of conduct, both on and off duty, by the employer, the public and the courts. In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the selection criteria outlined below: Note: Current BC Correctional Officers are exempt from providing documentation already submitted, or undergoing assessments completed, when hired into the position. SELECTION CRITERIA
o Adult graduation diploma (e.g. Adult Dogwood B.C.); or o GED certificate obtained between 1973 and 2014; or o Post-secondary graduation with a university degree
o Post-secondary transcript showing a final grade of at least 70 percent in a credit course in English that is at least equivalent to English 12 and qualifies the applicant for admission to a university that is a member of Universities Canada (it is the responsibility of the applicant to prove equivalency); or o Proof of graduation with either a university degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution that is a member of Universities Canada, or a U.S. university that appears in the U.S. Department of Education’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs , or a United Kingdom university that is listed as a recognized body on the UK government website (the degree courses must have been taught in English); or o Achievement of a minimum score in one of the following English language assessment tests: ASSESSMENT SCORE/RESULT IELTS Academic 6.5 with no part less than 6 LPI 5 CLB 7+ CELPIP General 7 CanTEST 4.5 with no part less than 4.0 Accuplacer 85 in reading with WritePlacer of at least 6 Note: if the equivalent high school graduation or degree is from an institution outside of North America or the United Kingdom, the applicant will be required have this credential verified by the International Credential Evaluation Service http://www.bcit.ca/ices. ASSESSMENT PROCESS Applicants that meet the minimum requirements AND submit the required documentation for Grade 12 graduation and English 12 will be invited to complete further assessments in the hiring process as outlined below.

Applicants that meet the minimum requirements AND submit the required documentation for Grade 12 graduation and English 12 can expect to be invited to complete the assessment process according to the tentative schedule noted below: For Complete Applications Received by January 28, 2018 COPAT / REACT TESTING: February 4 – 10, 2018 INTERVIEW AND REFERENCE CHECKS: March 5 - 9, 2018 ENHANCED SECURITY SCREENING: March 19 – April 8, 2018 MEDICAL ASSESSMENTS: April 16 - 27, 2018 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1. Online Questionnaire: YES - As part of the online application process you will be prompted to complete an online questionnaire to demonstrate how you meet the job qualifications. You need to allot approximately 30 minutes to complete the questionnaire. IMPORTANT: The online questionnaire cannot be saved and will time out after 60 minutes. You must complete the questionnaire and submit your application within 60 minutes or you will lose any information you have entered. 2. Resume required: YES - A resume is required and will be reviewed for all applicants who are awarded an interview. 3. Documentation of Grade 12 graduation and English 12: YES - You must email documentation that demonstrates successful completion of Grade 12 graduation and English 12 as defined in SELECTION CRITERIA above to: Correctional.Inventory@gov.bc.ca at the time of your application, or no later than the closing date of the competition, in order for your application to be considered. NOTE: Both documents must be submitted at the same time and the file size should not exceed 10MB. 4. Cover letter required: NO - Do not submit a cover letter as it will not be reviewed.
