Job Description
To assist with coordination and directly deliver residential outreach at public events for Toronto Water relating to the HTO TO Go Water Trailer, Environment Days and various trade shows. Events occur at various locations and many take place on weekends and evenings.
The work is performed under general instruction, but not necessarily under continual supervision.  The work can be at various indoor and outdoor locations, within the City of Toronto borders.  The work is prone to seasonal fluctuations.

Machines And Equipment Used:
Various office equipment and display equipment, vehicle, water trailer

Job Functions: 
  • Delivers, sets up and disassembles displays/equipment related to special events
  • Properly loads/unloads  vehicle, including securing of load
  • Acts as an on-site coordinator with external contact, and reports problems or concerns to Events Coordinator
  • Safely connects, disconnects and operates water trailer, including connecting to water sources such as hydrants or building hose bib connections
  • Identifies potential water supply risks and reports to Events Coordinator and/or Supervisor before allowing public access to water
  • Guides work of booth attendant staff, and responds to operational concerns during events.
  • Operates various office equipment to input, update and maintain maintenance records, event information, inventory and related databases.
  • Checks event locations to determine site feasibility and determine equipment requirements.  Ensures the location, equipment and supplies meet health and safety and legislative standards and completes required inspections.
  • Ensures materials, equipment and supplies are available, clean and in safe working order.
  • Requisitions supplies and maintains inventory.
  • Fulfills requests for maintenance, inspection, cleaning and repair of equipment.
  • Maintains fleet of vehicles (regular inspection, cleaning, arrange servicing with Fleet Services, etc.).
  • Makes recommendations regarding event coordination, policies and procedures.
  • Resolves issues independently, informing Events Coordinator and/or Supervisor  of actions taken
  • Identifies operational problems with trailer, equipment, etc. and make recommendations as to solutions
  • Maintains display literature and keeps supplies available
  • Staffs displays and provides information to the public regarding Toronto Water programs and services. Provides vehicular and pedestrian traffic control
  • Records required information to ensure response to concerns can be addressed, and for the purposes of feedback or audits on venues and display activities
  • Reads reports, memos, articles and brochures relating to the position to keep up-to-date and become more fully informed. Communicates updates to team members
  • Observes proper safety procedures
  • Utilizes City software package including Excel, Word, Access and Outlook, as well as Avantis Works Management System
  • Checks email at least once a day to receive direction, scheduling information, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to write in clear and legible manner
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in the safe and efficient operation of all vehicles, equipment and special attachments related to duties of this position
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence. Must qualify for, and must obtain the City's equipment operating permits and certificates required for this work (i.e., cube van, trailers under 4600 kg and pickup truck) within City specified time-frame according to the standards established by the City of Toronto's Fleet Services Division.
  • Strong understanding of complexities and risks associated with running water trailer program and an ability to act accordingly when making operational decisions.
  • Ability to work as a team player and team leader
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and customer service skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with members of the public.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings and to report to various work locations in a timely manner.
  • Broad knowledge of water issues such as water efficiency, storm water management, and water quality
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work physically through an 8 hour shift
Key Qualifications: 
  1. Experience utilizing Word, PowerPoint, Excel and email applications.
  2. Experience in customer service and dealing with the public
  3. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence. Must qualify for, and must obtain the City's equipment operating permits and certificates required for this work (i.e., cube van, trailers under 4600 kg and pickup truck) within City specified time-frame according to the standards established by the City of Toronto's Fleet Services Division.
