Duties

Delivers wildland fuel management, prescribed fire and wildfire suppression services in support of the field unit’s fire management programs.

• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
• Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (e.g. all-terrain vehicles) and marine (motorized and
non-motorized vessels) as required.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Security Screening: Obtain and maintain reliability status.
• Maintenance of a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (Class L, N or other graduated license will not be accepted);
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks, including:
- Occupational Health Assessment for firefighters;
- Arduous fitness status as outlined in the Parks Canada Fire Management Workplace Fitness Capacity Test SOP (http://wfx-fit.ca);
• Possession and maintenance Canadian Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid (20 hrs), or equivalent, and CPR certificate;
• Certification for chain saw use;
• Meet and maintain certified status for hover exit for light and intermediate helicopters.
• Meet and maintain certified status for Class D heli-sling for light and intermediate helicopters.

Other information

• Shared living accommodation may or may not be provided.
• If selected for an interview, candidates will be responsible for their own travel costs to the interview. Interviews may be held in Waterton Park, Alberta.
