The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (FLNRO) is the Province’s land manager, responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land, cultural and natural resources.  FLNRO is one of six ministries jointly responsible for managing the natural resource sector and balancing economic opportunities with environmental stewardship.   The ministry’s regional operations are structured in 23 districts within eight regions under the senior leadership of three geographically based Assistant Deputy Ministers and eight Regional Executive Directors.

Reporting to a bargaining unit supervisor or an excluded manager, the Scaling Officer is responsible to develop, administer and supervise the Interior District Scaling Program according to the Forest Act, Forest and Range Practices Act, Regulations, Scaling Manual, Waste Manual and provincial policy and guidelines.

Cranbrook is the sunniest place in Canada, and sits in the middle of the Rocky Mountain Trench. Cranbrook has multiple heritage sites, such as the Fort Steele Heritage town and Rails to Trails, which is converted to a path for walking and biking. Cranbrook has multiple festivals, such as the Children’s Festival and the Sam Steele Days.

Qualifications:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
  • Minimum of 5 years of related Interior scaling operational experience
  • Valid Interior Scaler licence with required endorsements
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence

Preferences may be given to applicants with:

  • Supervisory experience

Willingness/Ability Requirements:

  • Working in adverse weather conditions, in remote areas, and withstand the rigours of fieldwork
  • Operation of a variety of equipment (e.g. quads, snow machines, chain saw, 4X4 vehicles)
