The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure plans transportation networks, provides transportation services and infrastructure, develops and implements transportation policies, and administers many related acts and regulations as well as federal-provincial funding programs, including the Building Canada Fund. The Ministry opens up B.C. through innovative, forward-thinking transportation strategies that move people and goods safely, and fuel our provincial economy. Improvement of vital infrastructure is a key goal, along with enhancing the competitiveness of B.C.’s transportation industries, reducing transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions and providing B.C. with a safe and reliable highway system.

The Ministry's Avalanche and Weather Program establishes operational policies for Ministry and Maintenance Contractor operations in order to ensure safety to provincial highway users, particularly in snow and avalanche conditions.  This program provides technical direction and support for all provincial avalanche crews.  The program coordinates resources that obtain and distribute weather, road condition and seasonal strength loss information in support of avalanche, maintenance contractor and Ministry requirements.

The Assistant Environmental Electronics Technician assists in monitoring, maintaining and operating the Remote Weather Network and the Environmental Sensing Network throughout the Province.  This position will assist in determining local needs, configuring specialized software and equipment.  This position also assists with installations, maintenance and repairs to remote electronic stations that are used to support the Ministry highway system business requirements.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
  • Diploma in Electronic Engineering Technologies 
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in electronics instrumentation is preferred
  • Experience with environmental data acquisition – its collection, analysis and application is preferred
  • Canadian Avalanche Association Level 1 avalanche course preferred
  • Experience working in a comparable or similar capacity, outdoors, in an alpine environment, in harsh winter conditions
  • Experience in back country travel on foot, snow board or skis
  • Experience working with snow machines and around helicopters preferred
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence
