Summary
The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) provides a public service to educational, scientific, cultural, and on occasion, commercial institutions by creating, organizing and administering exhibitions for tour and offering related technical services. The incumbent serves as Registrar for SITES in the Exhibition Department. The Registrar is essential to the thorough coordination of exhibitions and related loans, the safe handling and care of the traveling exhibitions and loaned objects, and information management. Responsibilities
Tracks and handles artwork in traveling exhibits.
Drafts loan agreements with Smithsonian Institution museums and external affiliates.
Works with exhibition team to determine technical requirements for all objects.
Assists with the installation and de-installation of exhibits.
Ensures professional packing, shipping, and handling/storage methods.
Travels to ascertain the registrarial and conservation requirements of objects during exhibition development.
Travel Required
50% or less - Travel will be 25 to 50%.

Qualifications
Experience:
You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.
For this position Specialized experience is defined asarranging shows, selecting exhibits, preparing displays, maintaining the registration, accession, documentation of objects and planning exhibits in a museum or cultural institution.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
Or Education:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., related to the position.
Or a Combination:
