  The selectee for this position will serve as an IT SPECIALIST, OPERATING SYSTEMS (OS) RECENT GRADUATE in the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) Department of Navy Systems Management Activity.

  Responsibilities

  The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
  

  • You will serve as an IT Specialist trainee, receive on-the-job and classroom training in both technical and management aspects of IT disciplines.
  • You will work with higher grade level technical and functional personnel to perform work projects of limited difficulty, with objectives to train and contribute to the substantive work of the functional area.
  • You will be tasked with increasingly difficult developmental assignments as you progress toward the target grade level.

  Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  
  Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  
  Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Please Note: Marijuana is a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act and therefore use of marijuana is illegal under Federal law regardless of State laws. A positive drug test result for marijuana (or any other drug tested for) will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and ineligibility to apply for a position within the Department of Defense for 6 months from the date of the drug test.
  
  This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. Must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  
  
  

  Qualifications

  In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.
  
  Eligibility for the Recent Graduates Program: You will have completed all the requirements for an academic course of study leading to a qualifying degree (or will complete within 18 months) from an accredited educational institution within the preceding two years. OR you are entitled to veterans preference and have completed all the requirements for an academic course of study leading to a qualifying degree from an accredited educational institution, but due to military service obligation, you were unable to apply within the two year time frame, but it has been no more than six years since you have completed your qualifying degree.
  
  GS-07 level: you have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management with superior academic achievement, and my education has equipped you with the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
  OR
  You have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
  OR
  You have one year of information technology related experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Your experience in the information technology field has equipped you with skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
  
  GS-05 level: You have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

  Education
