What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.
Salary: $44,899 (Step 01) to $58,373 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.
There are two vacancies; however, this announcement maybe used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

As a Hydrologic Technician within the California Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
-Collects, processes, computes and checks various sediment samples from a drilling rig modifying approaches due to unforeseen conditions
-Performs water-level and discharge measurements from wells and springs adjusting approach.
-Performs routine field measurements such as water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen and alkalinity.
-Installs, maintains, and services a variety of sensing, recording and communication instrumentation.
-Leads a team in the construction of a variety of well-head security and data-collection platform structures.
Physical Conditions:
Work requires considerable dexterity, agility, and strenuous physical exertion such as that needed to: work infrequently or regularly from, tall ladders or scaffolding; work in areas where footing is treacherous; sustain periods of recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or climbing stairs; lift heavy objects weighing (over 50 pounds); crouch or crawl in constricted areas. The work regularly involves moderate risks or discomforts associated with visiting field sites with limited access, under adverse weather or flooding conditions, or exposure to irritant or toxic chemicals. Field work often exceeds an 8-hour period. Work may require the use of special clothing or gear such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, or respirators.Travel Required
25% or less - Overnight travel of 6-10 nights per month may be required.Supervisory status
