The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to (2) temporary positions a Colonial National Historical Park, Virginia. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Anticipated Entry on Duty: December, 2017.
Colonial National Historical Park is located in the Virginia Tidewater Region between the James and York Rivers, and is approximately 3 hours south of Washington, DC. The park, consisting of 8,677 acres, administers two of the most historically significant sites in English North America. Historic Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America in 1607 and Yorktown Battlefield, the final major battle of the American Revolutionary War in 1781. These two sites represent the beginning and end of English colonial America, and are connected by the 23-mile scenic Colonial Parkway. Colonial NHP has a variety of natural resources including extensive wetlands, forest, fields, shorelines and streams, as well as rare, threatened and endangered plants and animals. The nearby cities of Williamsburg, Newport News, and Hampton offer a wide variety of rental units and residences for sale or rent, as well as other municipal services, including schools and colleges.

Duties
As a fee collector at the Yorktown Visitor Center, this position is within the Historical Interpretation and Preservation Division (HIP) at Colonial National Historical Park (COLO). One hundred percent (100%) of the duties of this position relate to resource orientation, information dissemination and fee collection. Collects appropriate fees at the Yorktown Visitor Center and follows established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Operates a computerized point of sale system with touch screen, performs opening and closing shift functions, issues receipts, park passes and federal recreation passports in accordance with established guidelines, and verifies entrance receipts and various passes for validity dates. Completes shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold and all machine transactions from the shift, using journal and receipt tapes and a register of voided transactions. Safeguards funds collected and personal accountable stock. Assists with remittance reports and bank deposits for funds collected. Maintains necessary accountability records. Provides accurate information to visitors concerning COLO and other area attractions. Explains the area's historical and recreational opportunities, including interpretive services and concession operations; distributes maps, brochures and other printed materials, informs visitors of potential safety hazards; and provides directions and routes of travel through the park and surrounding area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Duty station for the fee operations is located inside the Yorktown Battlefield visitor center, an air conditioned facility. The fee desk may, on occasion, be exposed to the typical noises of large numbers of visitors, for example from tour buses.
