The selectee for this position serves as a Technician in the Non-Destructive Evaluation Branch, Code 611 of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division.  This position is located in Bethesda, Maryland.  The incumbent will provides support to the fabrication, fleet support and RDT&E programs conducted on the Carderock Facilities in the area of Non-destructive Testing. This involves the management of laboratory space, instrumentation and ancillary equipment associated with nondestructive testing.

Duties

As a Technician, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

·         Developing new nondestructive testing procedures, scan plans, or testing parameters to support nondestructive testing processes.

·         Interpreting nondestructive testing results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications or procedures.

·         Inspecting materials using liquid penetrant testing (PT), magnetic particle testing (MT), ultrasonic testing (UT), and visual testing (VT) to determine internal integrity of products.

·         Writing analytical reports containing nondestructive testing findings, discussions or recommendations.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the
next lower grade NT-03 (GS-09/10 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing nondestructive testing; or reviewing nondestructive testing scan plans, procedures, or written instructions for an organization.
 This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Current level II certifications in visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), and ultrasonic testing (UT).

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
The incumbent is expected to be familiar and comply with the Division's Hazardous Materials Communication Program (HAZCOM). Incumbent is regularly exposed to the hazard of: noise, electrical shock, wet surface, and climbing. The incumbent will occasionally use hazardous materials (e.g., various oils and solvents). The incumbent is occasionally exposed to high work and confined space.
Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (secret) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position.  Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Travel 25% of the time.
