This position is located at the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Department (SARD). Organizationally, SARD is a department of the Naval Medical Center San Diego and reports to the Director for Mental Health. Operationally, SARD is a multi-site department with services provided at Naval Station San Diego, Naval Medical Center San Diego, and Naval Submarine Base San Diego. The Licensed Clinical Social Worker performs duties at all of these sites. This position is that of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, working under the oversight of the Naval Station or Point Loma Clinic Heads. This department provides treatment to active duty personnel, family members and retirees who are diagnosed with alcohol abuse, alcohol dependence, drug dependence and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. In addition, family members of these patients are provided assessment, screening, family counseling, education and referral services. The patient population primarily requires assistance in addictions, and often includes those with additional psychiatric diagnoses.

The Duncan Hunter National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) FY 2009 provides that the Secretary of Defense can designate positions as shortage positions and recruit and appoint highly qualified persons to these positions. This announcement is open to accept resumes from candidates interested in helping the Department of the Navy meet our mission requirements for the acquisition of systems, equipment and facilities.

Duties

A typical day in the life of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing complex clinical services to patients includes:
· Perform diagnosis of substance abuse disorders and other psychiatric diagnosis, reviews paraprofessional patient assessments and determines level of patient treatment based on continuum of care model that focuses on treatment intensity and individual patient needs.
· Serve as a Team Leader for an Interdisciplinary Team that manages overall treatment of individual patients.
· Provide individual counseling, group counseling, and assessment for patients that have an additional psychiatric disorder or patients that may be experiencing problems in treatment. This includes performing mental exams, assessing for suicide, determining diagnosis, as well as independently providing comprehensive social work services.
· Provide assessment, counseling, education and referral of family members of patients.
· Provide supervision and training to alcohol and drug counseling staff regarding treatment issues, addiction, dual diagnosis and family dysfunction.
