The Export Document Examiner performs a range of unique clerical and technically oriented duties in support of programs to exclude or prevent the spread of specific animal diseases through exportation or importation of live animals, animal byproducts, biological materials, and/or organisms. Most positions concentrate on export programs, but support of other activities may occasionally be assigned by the supervisor as emergent needs arise.
The position involves performing specialized paraprofessional work associated with Veterinary Services animal health programs as needed.
Intermittent Work Schedule: Majority of work will be on an as needed (intermittent) basis. May work part time or full time occasionally, but no minimum amount of hours are guaranteed.
Salary Information: First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lowest rate of the salary range for the grade selected.
This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 1 year. (Appointment may be extended one additional year without reannouncing.) For more details click: Temporary Appointments

Duties
The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Communicates with brokers, customers, industry, Staff, Regional, and field personnel with national as well as international implications.
- Researches regulations (i.e. CFR, IREG), interprets regulations, and makes decisions regarding import/export requirements.
- Independently coordinates schedules for area-wide field personnel to conduct inspections and ensure compliance.
- Develops and maintains tracking system for program functions.
- Analyzes patterns, recognizes emerging trends, and alerts Director to possible controversies or program deficiencies. Prepares documentation related to program violations.
- Implements international export of livestock, pets, other animals and animal products, ensuring that correct documentation and procedures are followed
- Makes independent decisions related to the implementation of international exports of animals and products, which involves assessing complex interrelations of facts, applying precedence, making variation in procedural approach, and analyzing incomplete or conflicting data with national as well as international implications.
- Evaluates records management and electronic records management issues provides solutions and/or improvements to management.
