Duties


The Medical Instrument Technician (EKG) is a position that is integral to the safety of the patients admitted for care at the Washington DC VAMC. These positions will be located throughout the medical center as determined by the needs of the organization. The primary purpose of this position is to provide continuous direct visual monitoring of various remote patient monitoring, continuous hemodynamic monitoring, and other system(s) as assigned. This position provides 24/7 coverage to the Medical center performing duties under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and in collaboration with the staff nurse assigned to care for the patient. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Remains present at the central console where the cardiac rhythms are being transmitted to a single location;
  • Responsible for providing accurate communication with the appropriate staff in accordance with Medical Center Policy;
  • Maintains a record of patient's cardiac rhythm record throughout the time they have been placed on monitoring system

Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Work Schedule: Various 8 and 12 hour shifts available with rotation; weekends and holidays required.
