Duties

MAJOR DUTIES:
The position perform installation, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting on a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices having both mechanical and electrical parts and devices, or just mechanical parts for an AFRC property. The AFRC is a destination resort having a large number of guest rooms (818), and multiple kitchens, restaurants, banquet rooms, a fitness facility, pools, public area rest rooms, business offices, and employee facilities and office spaces that require constant attention to security for the well-being of guests and staff. Other duties include serving as a general mechanic public runner, responding to orders and calls for repairs related to electrical, plumbing, air conditioning and carpentry work when working the various shift. May be called upon to repair kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, warmers and ovens.

1. Locksmith: Maintains, adjusts, repairs, troubleshoots and installs a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices including electrical and or mechanical locks such as combination, cipher, cylinder/core and push bar locks. The security units typically secured by such devices include guest rooms, desks, safes, cabinets, equipment and secured areas. Maintains control of all cylinder and core magnetic keys (i.e., "dog tag" keys) by proper identification and documentation and is responsible for specified accountable property, e.g., Y29 master key. Makes flute steel, duplicate bit, cylinder and double-sided keys by impression or duplication methods and re-issues keys to different doors in the hotel due to damage or loss by the authorized key holder. Provides emergency lock services for incidents requiring entrance into rooms, and any other area or equipment that is secured using a key, cipher or electronic lock. If during the course of his work, signs of tampering are detected, notifies security for investigation. Uses a variety of hand, power, and specialty tools to do the work, e.g., files, chisels, hammers, picks, tweezers, drills, grips, duplicating machines, lathes, grinders, buffers, torches, and soldering irons. Maintains parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels, ensures proper safety equipment is used and enforces safety rules and regulations.

2. Keeps records and related documentation and/or log books for all lock systems and is responsible for specified accountable property items in conjunction with locksmith duties. Ensure safekeeping of master keys, codes, combinations, charts identifying location of locks, and similar items. Keeps records of materials used and time spent on projects. Assures the necessary material is available for assigned projects.

3. Electrical: Makes non-complex/routine repairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, damaged light fixtures, and poorly operating thermostats. Receives work orders or oral instructions that indicate the nature of the repair needed of fixtures, controls. Locates and repairs broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through a visual check or through use of a small variety of test equipment. Completes needed repairs to installed systems, and rearrange and hook up items such as outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers.

4. Air Conditioning: Performs routine preventive maintenance work from work orders and instructions and emergency calls as required. Traces and locates defects to determine the type and extent of the repair needed. Selects the proper tools and testing devices and accomplishes repairs on systems used to air condition areas and to cool equipment according to accepted trade practices. The work involves troubleshooting or recognizing the causes of faulty equipment, and making repairs on a variety of non-complex systems and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems such as faulty fan coils found on room air conditioning units and faulty belts and motors found in air handlers. Other items may include work needed on walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, deep freezers, evaporative coolers, and other equipment of comparable complexity that require using a limited number of testing techniques to locate worn and broken parts. Replaces filters as required or as preventive maintenance.

5. Plumbing: Checks for leaks, clears stoppages in drain Pipes; disassembles and repairs damaged sections; or repairs and replaces toilets, faucets, sinks, shower stalls, tiles, and showerheads. Repairs or replaces equipment already in place, such as water heaters and sections of pipe and tile, by following previously used routes, openings, hangers, and levels, and then re-connecting units to already-installed systems. Tests for proper operation. 40%
