The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to three (3) temporary positions at Mesa Verde Naitonal Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Anticipated Entry on Duty: August, 2017
Work schedule: These positions will have a flexible work schedule. Positions will be hired on a full time work schedule and may be changed to part time or intermittent throughout the appointment depending on management needs. Part time and intermittent work schedules may be available depending on management needs.
Mesa Verde is the premier archeological park in the United States and is World Heritage Site. Today, the park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. The park has over 52,000 acres, 8,100 of which have been designated as wilderness. Mesa Verde is located in southwest Colorado near several towns including Cortez (10 miles from the entrance), Mancos (8 miles) and Durango (36 miles). All services including a hospital, K-12 schools, grocery, recreation centers and more are present. The area is a hot bed for recreational enthusiasts. No matter which direction you travel from the park, recreational opportunities exist including hiking, rafting/kayaking, biking and so much more. The area is diverse ranging from high mountain wilderness to desert, all within a short drive.
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

Duties
Sell park passes, tour tickets and other entrance fees. Maintain, safeguard and sell accountable stock. Make change and safeguard funds collected. Operated cash registers, computers, credit card machines, adding machines, calculators and money counters. Deal with a high volume of personal contacts. Work under mental stress and physical fatigue. Provide daily information orally in person and over the phone. Sit and stand for long periods of time. Lift moderately heavy items. Work is repetitive and redundant with high volume of visitor contacts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
AT MESA VERDE THERE IS A RISK OF EXPOSURE TO WILDLIFE PATHOGENS TRANSMISSIBLE TO HUMANS SUCH AS HANTAVIRUS AND PLAGUE. While this risk is remote, some of the work sites may be infested with infected rodents and some work assignments may require the handling of live or dead animals; therefore, the possibility exists.
NOTE TO ALLERGY SUFFERERS: Mesa Verde contains a variety of both native and exotic species of grasses, trees and plants (i.e., sagebrush, pinion, juniper, Canada thistle, etc.) and other known allergens.
