This position is located in the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center (APAC), Smithsonian Institution. The employee provides administration support to APAC and serves under the supervision of the center's Director.
Duties
Reviews incoming and outgoing correspondence, coordinates schedules and calendars, and other office maintenance duties to ensure the efficient operation of the office.
Maintains and procures all supplies, assists with the preparation of budget proposals and reports, and assists in travel arrangements for the staff.
Conducts independent research and providing reports on topics/ projects with minimal supervision, provides recommendations and information based on the research for program development, and interacts with variety of constituent groups with diplomacy and professionalism.
Assists staff with outreach to the public and various organizations.

Qualifications
Experience:
You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as reviewing and drafting correspondence, managing schedules and calendars including travel planning,maintaining hard copy and digital files and records, procuring supplies and other items, and researching and data mining on projects and programs.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
