Position Information: These positions areFull-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.

Season: The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Cape Hatteras National Seashore is March - October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Anticipated Entry on Duty: Immediate; upon successful completion of background investigation.

Relocation: Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Duties

Performs routine maintenance and repair of grounds, walkways, exterior structures, campgrounds, buildings and related utilities. Performs elementary carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools. Performs simple operational maintenance on heating, venting and air conditioning equipment. Replaces toilet seats, installs soap and paper towel dispensers, unplugs sinks and toilets using a plunger. Prepares ground to lay sod or plant flowers and shrubs using provided and simple drawings. Uses a variety of gardening hand and powered tools. Mows lawns using large, complex industrial type power mowers and small domestic power mowers. Performs routing maintenance on equipment. Uses hand tools related to roofing repairs. Performs touch-up painting on tools and equipment, wood or metal surfaces.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

1. Ability to do the work of the Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-04, without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
2. Ability to obtain/maintain a current, valid State Driver's License (SCREEN OUT)
3. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
4. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
5. Use of measuring instruments
6. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
7. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
8. Knowledge of materials

• Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
