The selectee for this position will serve as a Legal Assistant (Court Reporter) in the Court reporting Division of the Command Services Department of RLSO SOUTHWEST SAN DIEGO CA.
Duties
The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
You will make verbatim recordings of every word spoken and all formal procedural evolutions during general and special court-martial as well as other legal or quasi-legal proceedings by utilizing the open-microphone system.
You will prepare the results of trial reports for convening authorities and confinement orders for accused sentenced to confinement.
You will assemble in appropriate format complete record of the proceedings, including transcript and all trial or hearing exhibits.
You will arrange for service of copy of authenticated record of trial on the accused, defense counsel, and victims as required by law.
You will route original record of trial for authentication and monitor progress of record during authentication process.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) making verbatim recordings and all formal procedural evaluations during legal or quasi legal proceedings by utilizing the open-microphone system. 2) Assembling in appropriate format complete record of the proceedings, including transcript and all trial or hearing exhibits. 3) Arranges for service of copy of authenticated record of trial on the accused, defense counsel, and victims as required by law. 4) Arranging for delivery of certified mailing of the original record of trial (or other proceeding), with appropriate number of copies, to the convening or appointing authority. 5) Coordinates travel and logistics of witnesses, victims, and counsel detailed to or summoned by court-martial for Region Legal Service Office Area of Responsibility (AOR).
This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
