Duties
Provides program oversight and accountability for the performance of assigned staff and the safety and well being of children and youth IAW DoD, Army and local policies and standards.
Prepares work schedules for assigned staff to meet ratio and group size requirements.
Ensures children/youth are appropriately supervised at all times.
Conducts written observations of staff during all hours of operation and evaluates employees based on established performance standards.
Assists supervisor in developing program budget & manages assigned program areas to budget.
Monitors food service program for assigned area ensuring compliance with all applicable Army and USDA food program policies and procedures to include proper meal components and portion sizes.
May be required to perform health related practices as reasonable accommodation for children with disabilities.

Qualifications
Minimally qualified candidates will meet ALL REQUIREMENTS of Minimum Qualification #1 OR Minimum Qualification #2.
Minimum Qualification #1:
Successful completion of an undergraduate (4-year) degree that included or was supplemented by major study (at least 24 semester hours) in the following fields:
child development,
early childhood education,
home economics (early childhood emphasis),
elementary education,
special education, or
other fields appropriate to the position to be filled such as related (young child) behavioral science.
IN ADDITION TO THE EDUCATION, THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET FOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATION #1:
Experience that involved teaching children or other work that demonstrated the ability to perform the duties of the position;
Ability to select, train, and supervise childcare and preschool employees, family childcare providers, or other care-giving adults;
Ability to develop and implement child development programs, including family day care programs, part-day preschool programs, and before and after school programs;
Ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions;
Possess ample oral and communications skills and analytical writing skills, and
Ability to present ideas and proposals to a variety of audiences.
OR
Minimum Qualification #2:
A combination of education and experience.
You must have completed courses equivalent to a major (24 semester hours) in any of the following fields:
child development,
early childhood education,
home economics (early childhood emphasis),
elementary education,
special education, or
other fields appropriate to the position to be filled such as related (young child) behavioral science.
PLUS appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described above.
EXAMPLES for Combination of Experience & Education:
1 year work experience with children & youth PLUS 3 years of education (90 semester hours completed) that included 24 semester hours in the fields identified above
OR
2 years work experience with children & youth PLUS 2 years of education (60 semester hours completed) that included 24 semester hours in the fields identified above
OR
3 years work experience with children & youth PLUS 1 year of education (30 semester hours completed) that included 24 semester hours in the fields identified above
IN ADDITION TO THE EDUCATION, THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET FOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATION #2:
3 months of directly related work experience teaching children or similar work requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position to be filled;
Ability to develop and implement child development programs, including family day care programs, part-day preschool programs, and before and after school programs;
Ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions;
Possess ample oral and communications skills and analytical writing skills, and
Ability to present ideas and proposals to a variety of audiences.
HIGHLY PREFERRED are those candidates that possess either qualification option above AND a minimum of two (2) years prior experience as an Assistant Director, Lead Child and Youth Program Assistant or a Supervisory Program Specialist with any Department of Defense (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps) Child, Youth, and School Services Program.
