About the Position:This is a Laborer, WG-3502-03 summer hire position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District, Operations Division. The position is temporary not to exceed 09/30/2017 and may be extended without further competition.
NOTE: Salary ranges vary based on duty locations. Pay will be determined upon selection.

Duties

As a Laborer, you will perform a variety of maintenance and upkeep duties in and around the park to which you are assigned. The following are examples of duties you will be performing in order to maintain and enhance the park's resources and to provide a quality natural environmental experience for the visiting public:

• Mowing lawns using a walking, power mower
• Clearing weeds
• Clearing or pruning trees
• Moving and arranging outdoor furniture
• Raking leaves
• Emptying refuse cans
• Removing debris from public grounds
• Servicing public restrooms

You will also assist maintenance workers with maintenance and repair of things such as: boat launching ramps, restroom buildings, water supply systems, exhibits, trails, fences, firebreaks, picnic tables and benches. You will use a variety of hand tools and power tools to perform these duties.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate the ability to do the work of a Laborer without more than normal supervision. This includes the ability to operate power tools to perform maintenance in public recreation areas; operate hand tools to perform maintenance and repairs; and clean or service public recreation areas (or equivalent experience).
You will also be rated on the following job elements:

• Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Lifts, carries, loads, unloads and moves materials, supplies and equipment frequently weighing over 50 lbs., running power mowers on grades or pushing heavy wheelbarrow loads of cement. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works from ladders, scaffolds or platforms.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (hot, cold, wind, etc). Employee is exposed to a variety of pests and insects with the possibility of bites. Employee is subject to strain from lifting, broken bones, cuts, bruises, scrapes and falls from ladders. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.

There is no substitution of education for experience for this job series and grade.
