The Pathways Internship Program is an excellent opportunity for students to get an interesting, real-world experience in the field of engineering while contributing to the defense of our nation.
This recruitment is for:
-  a temporary summer and/or winter internship.

These positions are located at Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) locations at the Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C.; Indian Head, Maryland; Moorestown, New Jersey; Portsmouth, Virginia; Dahlgren, Virginia; and Wallops Island, Virginia.
Salary ranges for each location are:
Washington Navy Yard, GS-3:  28,886 - 37,557; GS-4:  32,428 - 42,151
Indian Head, MD, GS-3:  28,886 - 37,557; GS-4:  32,428 - 42,151
Moorestown, NJ, GS-3:  28,152 - 36,602; GS-4:  31,604 - 41,080
Portsmouth, VA, GS-3:  26,150 - 33,999; GS-4:  29,356 - 38,158

Duties

As a student trainee within the Pathways Internship Program you will be given an opportunity to pursue work that is relevant and beneficial to your academic studies.
The Pathways program is an excellent opportunity for students to get an interesting, real-world experience in the field of engineering or engineering technology, while contributing to the defense of our nation.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
-Maintaining notebooks of collected data involving copying of numerals and mathematical symbols,
-Performing calculations applying standard formulas,
-Assisting engineers by searching technical reports and publications to compile engineering tables, graphs and charts for use by engineers,
-Attending engineering meetings and conferences and participating in formal on-the-job training programs,
-Making simple detail drawings (e.g., of components) for engineering sketches and layouts designed by professional staff members.

Qualifications

ELIGIBILITY:
You are eligible if you are currently accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
To remain eligible for this internship, you MUST continue to be enrolled in a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis for the duration of the appointment.

Supporting documentation: You must provide acceptable documentation of your appointment eligibility, by providing proof of enrollment or acceptance of enrollment, in the form of letters, records or statements issued from a high school, vocational institution, college, or university, with your completed application.
NOTE: Acceptable proof of enrollment includes student's current course schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS:
In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient education and/or experience to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.
To qualify for the  GS-0899-03 position, you must have: Successful completion of one full academic year of post-high school study at the closing date of this announcement.
To qualify for the  GS-0899-04 position, you must have: Successful completion of two full academic years of post-high school study OR completion of an Associate's Degree at the closing date of this announcement.

This position has Conditions of Employment (screen-outs) which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing these Conditions of Employment will be found ineligible for this position. The Conditions of Employment are:

-United States citizenship    AND
-18 years of age or older     AND
-Availability to work at the geographical location you have selected for 40 hours/week, for a period not to exceed 1 September 2017 (summer internship) and/or 19 January 2018 (winter internship).

This position also has a Quality Ranking Factor that will be used to differentiate best qualified candidates.  The Quality Ranking Factor is:  Grade point of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, at time of application.
