OSHA Launches Program Targeting High Injury and Illness Rates
Lilly HummelThe Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced it is initiating the Site-Specific Targeting 2016 (SST-16) Program using injury and illness information electronically submitted by employers for calendar year 2016. The program is not targeted specifically at long term care providers, but they are included in the review along with many other industries. OSHA plans to inspect workplaces with high injury rates reported and employers that OSHA believes should have submitted a Form 300A (Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illness) in 2016, but did not.
The 2017 reporting deadline was July 1, 2018, however, employers may still provide this information to the database.
Long term care providers with more than 20 employees are currently required to keep OSHA injury and illness records, and electronically provide this information via Form 300A each year. OSHA’s website has more information about tracking and reporting workplace injuries and illnesses.
