• For mail delivery, supervise the daily operation of a team to ensure the safe and efficient sortation, routing and delivery of mail in accordance with regulations procedures and instructions • For mail processing, supervise the processing of all classes of mail in a postal facility, set daily priorities to ensure that deadlines and service commitments are met, monitor and follow up on delivery and scanning exceptions, and liaise with other functions in operations to ensure the efficient movement of mail • Promote and implement work place safety and health programs for the work unit including: coaching and directing employees on safe work practices in order to reduce accident frequency and severity; conducting investigations; reporting and following up on accident incidences; addressing and resolving health and safety issues in a timely and efficient manner; participating as a member of the local health and safety committee, and overseeing the return-to-work and accommodation of employees unable to perform the full range of duties in their job • Supervise, coach and provide guidance and leadership to employees, promote a respectful environment in the workplace, administer human resources processes such as staffing, performance management, disability management and attendance management, resolve staff issues including taking disciplinary action if required, consult with Labour Relations and/or union representatives on the application of the terms of the collective agreement, and create learning and knowledge transfer opportunities for assigned staff • Estimate workloads in order to arrange for adequate staff to be on duty, recommend and sometimes authorize the use of overtime as required, assign and confirm available staff to different areas of the operation according to fluctuating mail volume, and request additional equipment or services as required • Evaluate current operational methods and procedures, recommend improvements to optimize operational efficiency, implement changes and communicate with the support groups as required • Conduct daily observations of employee productivity, investigate abnormalities and work to improve performance and implement best practices in productivity, analyze daily productivity reports to determine problems and trends, and share analysis and results with the team • Maintain administrative records on volumes processed and employees’ time and leave in SAP, perform administrative tasks related to the operation of the shift, produce reports, resolve related data issues, and perform other administrative tasks associated with a team leader role • Promote good relations with external stakeholders such as bargaining unit representatives, contractors, customers and the general publicQualifications
EDUCATION • High School Diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (Equivalent work experience, as defined below, may be accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma) WORK EXPERIENCE 1.a) Minimum 1 year experience managing a team. OR 1.b) Minimum 2 years experience working within a unionized environment PLUS 2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., understand the major features of each software application) ASSETS Education: • Post-secondary degreeOther Information
• The successful candidates will be placed on an Eligibility List to become a Supervisor.
• This position will begin as a contract position, with the potential to become permanent.
• Candidates may be placed in Plant Operations or Collection & Delivery.
- Candidates must possess a valid permanent provincial driver's license
- Candidates must have a satisfactory safe driving record. You may be required to submit a driver's abstract to validate your driving record.
