Who can apply: To be eligible, you must be:
-a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution
-currently recognized as having full-time student status by the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled
-returning to full-time studies in the next academic term and

Duties

Gulf Islands National Park Reserve is anticipatorily looking for students to assist our
Asset Management Team for the 2018 summer season. These positions
provide hands-on learning opportunities that support Parks Canada’s
maintenance programs. As a member of our team, you will support our goal to
enhance the visitor experience and engage Canadians and other visitors in the
learning, enjoyment, connection to, and appreciation of Canada’s natural and
cultural heritage.
Working on trails, grounds, cleaning, roads and solid waste management.
Operates manual and power tools and equipment. ride on mowers, grass
trimmers, tractors, light trucks.
provides general labour support and assistance to skilled and semi-skilled repair and maintenance work.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to hire students for the summer 2018. We will only contact students who demonstrate clearly in the screening follow up questions that they possess the education and experience required for this opportunity.

Completion of at least 1 year post secondary schooling

•Experience working on trails, grounds keeping, cleaning , roads or solid waste management.

raking, digging, shovelling, trimming, mowing, planting, cutting trees and

• Ability to operate manual and power tools and equipment; ride on mowers, grass
trimmers, tractors, light trucks.
• ability to provide general labour support and assistance to skilled and semi-skilled repair and maintenance work.
• Ability to adapt in order to work effectively in ambiguous or changing situations, and with diverse individuals and groups

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Reliability Status security clearance is required.
Be in possession of a valid class 5 driver’s license

To be eligible, you must be:

Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.

Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain and weather conditions by various means of transportation;

Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and required protective clothing
