The Quinte Detention Centre seeks an experienced Security Officer to provide security services for the visiting and main entrance areas of the institution.
Please note: This position is temporary, irregular on-call up to 12 months with possible extension. The hours of work are 0 to 40 hours per week, including weekends.
• Monitor security doors via an electronic control panel and maintain on-going surveillance through closed-circuit security monitors
• Receive calls, respond to questions and provide information to the public
• Receive visitors, and check identifications and documents of people entering and leaving the area
• Organize offender visits and offender clothing exchange
• Screen offender incoming mails and distribute appropriately
• You can apply appropriate policy and procedure when sharing or disclosing information
• You can respond effectively to emergencies, e.g., fire, medical emergencies, and evacuation
• You have good judgement skills to decide when intervention is required
• You can assess and validate visitor identification for access to the institution
• You can exercise tact and diplomacy when providing information to the public, and explaining institution rules and procedures
• You can write reports and maintain logs
