What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

. provide group leadership for a variety of technical and operational duties as well as monitoring responsibilities for the successful day-to-day operation of the park
. assist with resource management projects
. ensure facilities and equipment are properly maintained
. perform administrative duties such as correspondence, ordering equipment and purchasing supplies
. carry out routine facility inspections, as well as ensure their normal operations

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have the ability to be designated as Park Warden and meet and maintain the ministry certification criteria and standards in Use of Force training.
• You have the ability to obtain a valid First Aid Certificate.
• You have a valid class “G” driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
• You have the ability to obtain a valid chainsaw operator's training certificate.
• You are able to work shifts, weekends and holiday as required.

Technical knowledge and skills:

• experience in semi-skilled tasks associated with skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, automotive
• knowledge of the operation and maintenance of provincial park facilities and support services, such as campsites, comfort stations, hydro and gas
• experienced in the operation and maintenance of a variety of powered equipment, such as chainsaws, brush cutters, tractors, lawnmowers, boats and small hand tools
• ability to work from simple blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams, shop drawings, operating and code (i.e. electrical, plumbing, building) manuals

Group leadership and interpersonal skills:

• ability to provide training and group leadership to a seasonal workforce of fixed-term staff and students
• interpersonal skills to work as part of a team and lead staff and students

Specific knowledge:

• knowledge of parks programs, services and operating regulations
• knowledge of purchasing and accounting policies, procedures and best business practices
• knowledge of park emergency plans, evacuation plans, and procedures

Enforcement knowledge:

• knowledgeable about law enforcement and have the ability to interpret and apply relevant provincial and federal legislation (e.g. Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence Act, Trespass to Property Act) in order to lay charges, process tickets, conduct searches and seizures, and deal with park users

Computer proficiency:

• ability to use personal computers including word processing, record keeping, electronic mail and internet software applications
