Delivers interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors of the park, historic site or marine conservation area with opportunities to discover, appreciate, learn about and enjoy the place and its natural and/or cultural resources and understand their significance to Canada.

The Quebec Field Unit administrative offices are located in the centre of the Old Quebec. The Quebec Field Unit is responsible of overseeing the operation of six national historic sites located on both the North and the South shore of Quebec city; the Fortifications-of-Quebec, Saint-Louis-Forts-and Castles, Montmorency park, Cartier-Brebeuf, Levis Forts and Grosse-Île-and-the-Irish-Memorial. The sites located in the Old Quebec are components of the historical district of the Old Quebec, site of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Intent of the process

This process could be used to staff similar term or indeterminate positions within the Field Unit. Those positions would have the same work description but could have different lenght of employment, location and/or linguistic profile.

EXPERIENCES

- Experience in paid or volunteer work that entailed direct contact and communication with the public ;
- Experience in delivering messages/ information to group in face- to- face situations for the purpose of education, engagement, entertainment and/or motivation ;
- Experience in heritage interpretation, adult education, museum education, storytelling or in theatre/performing arts.

EXPERIENCES

A preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in the entertainment field (playground or summer camp), a work experience requiring a knowledge of the regional tourism offer, or experience in customer service and sales (operate a cash register revenue control, cash report, bank deposit, handling cash, etc.)
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

- Work shift work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays ;
- Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements ;
- Work in varied field, weather conditions and isolated locations and travel by various means of transportation ;
- Stand for prolonged periods of time:
- When offering guided tours, Heritage Presenter must frequently stand and walk on long distances (up to more than one kilometer) ;
- Handle historic weapons or other types of materials ;
- For the positions located at Grosse-Ile NHS, employee must accept to stay on the island during his/her shift and to travel by boat and plane.

Other information

Persons who have received pay in lieu of unfulfilled surplus period, a Transition Support Measure (TSM) or an Educational Allowance and are re-appointed to the Parks Canada Agency are required to reimburse an amount corresponding to the period from the effective date of such reappointment or hiring, to the end of the original period for which the TSM and education allowance was paid.
