Two temporary positions are currently available at our Skimikin Seed Orchard (near Salmon Arm, BC)
These are temporary (seasonal) positions, anticipated to run from April to September, 2018
Regular employees of the BC Public Service must have their supervisor's approval prior to applying
Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply
An eligibility list may be established to fill positions in our Salmon Arm location

The Forest Improvement and Research Management Branch of the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development, manages six provincial seed orchards, producing over 250 million seedlings a year, which is 55% of the province's seed supply!  This entire operation is run via a cost-recovery model.

We are currently recruiting for two seasonal positions with our Skimikin Seed Orchard and this is an excellent opportunity to explore your passion for forestry-related work and to spend time in our beautiful Seed Orchards.  You will gain valuable on-the-job training and experience working along our highly skilled staff.  If you have a genuine interest in forestry, agriculture or horticulture, this may be the opportunity for you.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the job requirements as outlined below:
  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent, plus one year experience in a related field.  Prefer post-secondary training or courses in a related field such as forestry, biology, agriculture or horticulture.
  • Preference for candidates enrolled in, or who have completed, course work towards a diploma or degree in a field such as forestry, biology, agriculture, or horticulture.
  • Prefer related manual labour or outdoor working experience in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry such as tree planting, gardening, landscaping, orchard work, forestry, etc.
  • Valid pesticide applicator’s certificate, or willing and able to immediately obtain one.
  • Demonstrated experience with and ability to use machinery and equipment (ATVs, pruners, weed eaters, mowers).
  • Valid BC Class 5, 7N, or equivalent Driver’s Licence (Class 7L is not considered equivalent).
  • Completion of an ATV safety course if driving quads is expected.
  • Other equipment or operational safety tickets, such as forklift, fall arrest, aerial platform operation, etc., may be considered an asset.
