Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario and our goal is to create a transportation network that enhances the prosperity, sustainability and quality of life for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. We lead planning in the region with a Regional Transportation Plan that guides the work and investments of the organization. This includes building light transit, bus rapid transit and Regional Express Rail, as well as operating GO Transit, UP Express and PRESTO.

What can I expect to do in this role?

This position provides support to the Procurement Analyst conducting financial analysis and market research in support of category strategies, cost savings, contract negotiations/analysis and business metrics.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Identifies data requirements for research and analysis, including determining the most appropriate data sources (e.g. internal and external studies, surveys, ministry partners, external studies, Internet searches) and modelling techniques to facilitate data gathering and analysis
• Compiles data and performs quantitative and qualitative research and analysis using standard statistical analysis software
• Conducts spend analysis using specialized tools during and after the Division's transition to a fully operational Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution
• Contributes to obtaining data for quotes and provides sourcing support within the requisition-to-pay process
• Assists with the development of ad-hoc market analysis for PCS and corporate stakeholders
• Assists the Procurement Analyst with maintaining the spend analysis tool used to analyze historical and forecasted spend data that supports activities of the Category Managers (e.g. category strategies and sourcing negotiations with vendors)
• Prepares reports, briefing notes, presentations, and/or other supporting documents
• Creates presentation decks used for external engagement/stakeholder events
• Collaborates with Procurement Analyst to forecast projected spend based on long term organizational demands and expected changes to market drivers
• Liaises with Finance and IT departments to understand data modeling options and ensure optimal data extraction for requisite reporting
• Assists and supports other employees on topics related to the incumbent's area of expertise, but does not guide employees in their day-to day activities

Qualifications

• Completion of a diploma in Finance, Commerce, Administration, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a financial analysis role, preferably within procurement and sourcing, and/or a public sector environment
• Experience with process, systems, and data functions would be an asset
• Experience conducting research and analysis to identify data requirements, data sources, and modeling techniques to facilitate data gathering and analysis
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and oral/written/presentation communications skills to prepare proposals, reports, briefing notes, presentations, and/or other supporting documents.
• Experience with Oracle ERP Financials would be an asset
