BC offers a host of exceptional recreation opportunities and you can be a member of the Recreation Sites and Trails team that works to manage and maintain BC’s backcountry playground consisting of some of the province’s most spectacular recreation sites and trails.  In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the management of a network of recreational facilities in the diverse Cariboo-Chilcotin region.  This vast area is approximately 10.3 million hectares in size, stretching from Clinton in the south, to the Cottonwood River north of Quesnel, east to Wells Gray Provincial Park, and west to Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, and divided into two separate Recreation Districts.  The Recreation Technician will work alongside the District Recreation Officers for both the Quesnel-Central Cariboo and the 100 Mile House-Chilcotin Recreation Districts to regularly interact with a variety of highly engaged stakeholders (e.g., community representatives, recreation clubs and organizations, First Nations, other government agencies and employees) to participate in shared initiatives, respond to problems and issues, and to inform, educate and communicate the objectives and program goals of the Recreation Sites and Trails Branch. As the entry level position to, and an integral member on a District Recreation Sites and Trails team, the Recreation Technician will provide invaluable experience for individuals seeking a career in recreation management.  Your strong interpersonal skills and high-energy enthusiasm will augment your technical and infrastructure management skills as you work to ensure public safety, minimize environmental risks, and represent the Province as a local leader in recreation site and trail maintenance.   Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:   Establishing and maintaining relationships with recreation partners for efficient management of recreation sites and trails; Ensuring that service contracts are negotiated and effectively implemented; Conducting inspections at recreation sites and trails; Supervising and providing technical advice regarding the construction and installation of various infrastructure, e.g., picnic tables, kiosks, boardwalks, foot bridges, technical trail features; Assisting the District Recreation Officer with the delivery of the Campsite Expansion Project by providing technical advice and support on planning and construction of new and expanded campsites; and monitoring on-site activities as well as the work and services provided by contractors; Resolving public complaints, interacting and engaging with users at recreation sites and trails to help inform users of rules, ensure compliance with legislation and regulations, and reduce conflict between users; and Maintaining recreation information databases for use in statistical reports and public information systems. Qualifications:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:   University Degree or Diploma in Tourism, Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Geography, or other discipline which is related to the focus of the position Experience working in a national, provincial or municipal parks setting, or in a similar environment consisting of diverse outdoor recreational facilities (experience in a Canadian outdoor recreational environment is an asset) Experience conducting inspections and maintenance of campgrounds, sites and trails Experience establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with clients, customers or stakeholders Experience in data collection, analysis, maintenance and reporting and in the use of related computerized programs including spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and the Internet Experience resolving problems, disagreements, or other issues between parties with conflicting interests or perspectives Experience providing leadership and guidance to working teams, contractors, or volunteers Applicants selected to move forward in the hiring process may be assessed on the Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies as outlined in the attached Job Profile.  A Criminal Record Check, Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening may be required as per Ministry requirements.
