The correct salary range for this position is $24.90 to $27.01 per hour in compliance with current OPSEU collective agreement provisions

The Quinte Detention Centre seeks highly knowledgeable trades professionals to provide general maintenance in a wide variety of semi-skilled trades for the institution.

Please note:

• This position is temporary, irregular on-call, 0 to 40 hours per week, up to 8 hours per day with possible overtime
• This position supervises inmate helpers. Salary note for Custodial Responsibility Allowance (K-1) applies

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will perform semi-skilled maintenance duties, and provide assistances to trades contractors and service providers. You will:

• Perform plumbing maintenance (replace toilets, plumbing lines, taps, unplug clogged drains, sewage lines and traps)
• Perform electrical maintenance (change bulbs, fuses, switches and fixtures)
• Perform other semi-skilled maintenance (welding for items, install piping and plumbing fixtures, install appliances and equipment)
• Assist with masonry and carpentry projects
• Assist with developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program
• Provide supervision and instructions to inmate helpers
• Maintain accurate supplies, tracking logs and records

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have completed an apprenticeship training and certification in one of the skilled trades as recognized by the Ontario Government

Technical Knowledge and Experience

• You have proven knowledge of and demonstrated experience in a wide variety of general maintenance work, including plumbing, welding and electrical
• You can complete work from blueprints, schematics, specifications, diagrams and drawings
• You have experience in operating commonly used hand and power tools

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can discuss work projects with other trades people, liaise with correctional staff, and ensure work is completed in a timely manner
• You can complete reports on assigned projects and maintain accurate logs
• You can provide supervision and instructions to inmate helpers
