SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Manages the storage space for production and post-production media (digital data). Coordinates the optimal traffic of media between the various servers and work stations. Manages the media content (digital data) on the servers, verifies the media files (digital media) integrity and ensures that log sheets with details of the contents of the files are produced. As footage is passed from the acquisition to post, is responsible to keep a log of who has received what and track all copies of the footage. Analyzes and optimizes data traffic on the networks associated with film post-production and ensures the continuity of performance of the various processes. Works closely with coordination, FOT hosting and project coordinators for the availability of media files based on the production schedules.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the traffic and storage of production media on the technical resources servers by monitoring all the volumes to optimize their operational use and capacity.
- Analyzes the server content daily and finds any performance, capacity or security anomalies that could impact the integrity and access to the data that are stored there.
- Depending on the priorities set by the RT heads and the hosting coordination members, manages media traffic and monitors the server content for the various projects based on the capacity of the network and the servers, while keeping in mind the rules in place and operational workflows.
- Cooperates with technicians from various post-production and technological development sectors to establish and monitor these rules and operational workflows.
- Receives requests from project coordinators regarding the migration of production media to different volumes for post-production, back-up or archiving.
- Carries out these migrations by selecting the appropriate volume for storing these production media based on the intended uses, keeping in mind the required performance criteria.
- Manages and carries out archiving requests of Digital masters and back up requests of production media made by the project coordinators.
- Acts as a consultant for all questions regarding the use and accessibility of volumes, files and their components.
- Takes part in establishing and implementing preventive strategies for maintaining and updating hardware and software to ensure optimal continuity of operations.
- Manages defective files and their replacements in cooperation with the various post-production and hosting sectors.
- Takes charge of implementing data management traffic workflows and carries out archiving, de-archiving, back-up and restoration operations for production and post-production media of original works.
- In cooperation with the project coordinators, R&D and post-production technicians, ensures the integrity of data in the process, and manages the robotics associated with those operations.
- Collaborates with R&D and technological development when installing new equipment related to the production network, participates with R&D and technological development in creating and implementing new media streaming processes.
- As part of digital media file management responsibilities, and in collaboration with R&D, tech support and some external suppliers, participates in setting up equipment and procedures that follow the course of technological development in terms of film production hardware.
- Keeps technical knowledge up-to-date by following the continuous technological developments and by monitoring technology in his/her field of expertise.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- College diploma in an appropriate discipline, such as film production or media technology.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in a comparable position, and extensive knowledge of media storage systems.
- Good knowledge of current standards and practices in the film and television industries and in digital media.
- Able to advise clients on the processes and equipment.
- Very good knowledge of post-production film equipment, digital formats (codecs and containers), as well as compression standards for image and sound media.
- Ability to make technical principles easy to understand.
- Bilingual French and English (written and spoken).
