As the Child Protection, Domestic Violence Unit Social Worker you will be required to prepare documentation for court, file documents and ensure legislative requirements are addressed, as well as timelines for serving notice. You work with and prepare clients for court by explaining the purpose and ensuring the client has access to legal counsel.  Many of the cases require Protection Intervention Orders under the Child, Family and Community Service Act.

This position requires a strong understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and the impacts on the safety and well-being of women and children.  You will also be expected to mentor and consult with other teams and community partners around Integrated Domestic Violence Unit best practices. You may be required to give presentations or facilitate/organize learning events.

You will also be required to consent to an enhanced security screening assessment so that you can work out of the police station.

Qualifications:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:  
  • Bachelors of Social Work or Masters in Social Work, or Bachelors of Art in Child and Youth Care, or Masters in Educational Counselling/Masters Clinical Psychology, or equivalent.
  •  2 years Child welfare experience, preference maybe given to those with 4 years of child welfare experience.
  • 2 years minimum Child Protection C6 delegation experience.
  • Experience working with domestic violence cases is an advantage.
  • Experience developing collaborative partnerships with community partners is a definite asset.
  • A valid BC class 5 driver’s licence is required.
  • May be required to work evening/weekends.
  • Exposure to regular travel in remote locations.
  • May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis.
