TECHNICIAN - Department of the Navy - Naval Surface Warfare Center, MD
Summary
This position is within the Model Fabrication Facility of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, located in Bethesda, MD. You will serve as the lead CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) Programmer responsible the development of all critical, precise and complex machines cut programs utilized by a machine shop specializing in producing one of a kind and limited production component to support critical Navy research and development programs.
As the lead CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) Programmer, your duties will include but are not limited to:
--Developing machine cut codes, using G and M programming language, for use with Fanuc CNC and proprietary controllers installed on Wire EDM machines, and 3, 4 and 5 axis machine centers, mills and lathes.
--Determining proper tool types, feed rates and tool speeds for a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, composite materials, reinforced and non-reinforced plastics, and rubber.
--Planning the methods used to fabricate and modify nonconventional, experimental and prototype mechanical models constructed from ferrous and nonferrous metals and other materials of various thicknesses, shapes and gauges using best trade and procurement practices and state-of-the-art technology.
--Planning and developing code for model fabrication, manufacturing, and design based on written or oral instructions, sketches or complex drawings. Frequently, no past precedents are available for reference.
--Using digital measurements, and current technology, to reverse engineer existing models used in research or experimental programs where testing and evaluation is performed and models are designed to full, reduced or enlarged scale.
--Designing specialized tooling fixtures to be used to support the production of complex machined components

Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. For the NT-03: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower band (NT-02, GS-05/08 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector experience writing code for 3 axis CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) milling and lathe operations using Mastercam software; utilizing CAD software packages. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows: Successful completion of two full years of graduate education or master's degree in a qualifying field. -OR- A combination of post high school education and specialized experience that equates to one year of experience.For the NT-04: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower band (NT-03, GS-09/10 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector developing and implementing CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) code for 5 axis milling and 3 axis turning with live tooling operationsusing Mastercam software; utilizing CAD software packages.
