    The National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD), an office within DHS Headquarters, leads the national effort to protect and enhance the resilience of the nation's physical and cyber infrastructure. This position may reside in any NPPD subcomponent, including the Federal Protective Service, Office of Infrastructure Protection, Office of Biometric Identity Management, Office of Cyber and Infrastructure Analysis, Office of the Under Secretary, or the Office of Cybersecurity and Communications.

    This is a Pathways Student Intern Program position and is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. Veteran's Preference will be applied in filling positions under the Pathways Programs.

    This is an open continuous announcement for 60 days, or until all positions are filled. It will be used to fill immediate and future vacancies for this agency.     Interns hired through this announcement are eligible to convert into positions up to the full performance level of GS-12.

    Responsibilities

    Major duties in this Student Trainee position include, but are not limited to:
    • Performs a variety of record keeping, reporting, and informational duties in support of the office's programs.
    • Use several types of office automation tools, such as word processing, graphic, spreadsheets, and database management skills to compile and manipulate information into various formats.
    • Maintain bulletin boards, selecting and filing deleted material for future reference; and record, sort, assemble, and file information on specific cases, current projects, or studies.
    • Type simple copies of forms; type requests for supplies or services; carry-out data entry assignments and produce searches using various keyboard functions.
    • Assist in making travel arrangements and maintain time and attendance reports.
    • Make arrangements to schedule conference rooms or conference calls for meetings; answer phones and greet visitors.
