    Responsibilities

    NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed four (4) years). Term appointments are non-status, non-permanent appointments of limited duration. Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointment may be extended without further competition.

    This position, located within the Albany VA Medical Center, New York, serves as a Research Assistant assisting the Research Coordinator in all day-to-day operations of The Million Veteran Program (MVP): A Partnership with Veterans, which aims to create resources within VA that would allow researchers to conduct genetic research studies.

    Additional duties include, but not limited to:
    • Collects and ships blood specimens per MVP protocol;
    • Creates and maintains appropriate tracking and filing systems for all program documentation and patient samples;
    • Completes and maintains all program-related records for each participant, including consent forms, data management systems, and source documentation worksheets;
    • Schedules meetings, including arranging for space, notifying participants, preparing the agenda/minutes and following-up on all commitments;
    • Inputs data into a number of electronic databases (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.);
    • Extracts data to prepare reports, sorts and summarizes data elements, manipulates the data by performing statistical queries, etc.;
    • Schedules and conducts participant visits, including structured interviews and health assessments;
    • Manages implementation, control, and reporting on clinical tests;
    • Draws blood, monitors vital signs and measures lung function, body composition, and grip strength; and
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
    Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
