About the Position:
This position is located in the Department of Surgery, Pain Management Clinic in a specialty clinic in Anesthesia for the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD.
A complex, demanding position, whose work involves a variety of clinic/unit receptionist and clerical procedures pertinent to provisions of medical and nursing care in the inpatient or outpatient setting (i.e., monitoring, scheduling and rescheduling patients for treatment, interviewing patients for appointments, referring and coordinating patient moves to other medical specialty clinics/units, initiating, assembling, and filing medical records, and providing information necessary to resolve complaints). These include, but are not limited to, providing initial contact with all health care providers and patients on the unit/clinic, the recording and reporting of patient information, relaying of calls and information requiring immediate attention of the staff, monitoring and scheduling appointments and recording workload, insuring the administrative maintenance and completeness of all medical documentation, records and reports and resolving informal complaints.

This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining and monitoring patient appointment schedules; using automated systems such as Composite Health Care System (CHCS), AHLTA, ESSENTRIS, and/or Microsoft Office; receiving patients and/or visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically; and resolving problems/issues through discussion with patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
