This position is located in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) Section, New York and Brooklyn Medical Center campuses, and is aligned under Patient Services. Your duties can include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintains proper workflow, as outlined in the SPS procedure manual, for stocking and rotating supplies in SPS and other storage areas;
- Uses basic computer skills to maintain accurate inventory of suppliesinSPS.Also,upon receipt of bar code scanners will be required for periodic inventory in conjunction with the inventory system supported by the medical center IFCAP/GIP computer package;
- Operates all decontamination equipment in special area receiving "soiled " and contaminated material.Identifies, decontaminates and systematically segregates reusable items for preparation, reprocessing and redistribution;
- Receive from decontamination area all RME requiring assembly into packs, instrument sets, and a wide variety of other components for surgery and other treatment areas;
- Efficiently schedules operation of sterilizers to permit cooling or aeration of sterilized items prior to use by clinics or the operating room;
- The position performs other duties as assigned.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Work Schedule: The employee will be assigned to either the 6:30 am - 3:00pm, 7:00am - 3:30pm, 8:30am - 5:00pm, 9:00am - 5:30pm, 10am - 6:30pm, or 2:00pm - 10:30pm shifts. The employee will be required to rotate between these shifts. Rotation to assignment on weekends, holidays and off tours of duty will be required. On weekend and holiday rotation of when designated, the incumbent will assume responsibility as lead technician for all areas of Sterile Processing Service (SPS) and employee will be assigned to either the 7:30am - 4:00pm or 2:00pm - 10:30pm shift.
