As the Medical Readiness Specialist in this position, you will:
Plan and manage disaster preparedness and medical readiness programs;
Provide technical advice on medical emergency response regulations, requirements, and procedures for situations involving enemy attacks, bioterrorist events, natural disasters, accident response, and other emergencies or wartime contingencies;
Develop and modify medical operating plans for deployment of medical personnel;
Direct the activities of a medical unit control center;
Manage and/or and oversee Medical Disaster Preparedness Training Program(s).
Participate in discussions and meetings; and, serve on panels or committees.
Position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
Other Significant Facts:
Frequent shifts in working hours and extended periods of overtime required. Night or weekend shifts can be expected if situation warrants immediate medical contingency response action.
May be required to travel by military/commercial aircraft, government owned vehicle (GOV) or privately owned vehicle (POV) to accomplish temporary duty.
May be required to attend workshops, seminars, symposiums, professional clusters or formal/continuing training classes as needed.
This is a Key Position. In the event of a war, a war-related emergency, a disaster caused by people or a natural disaster, the incumbent of this position must perform duties to support an assigned Air Force Mission. The incumbent will also be required to take part in readiness exercises.
This position requires a Secret clearance. The incumbent must remain eligible for a secret clearance at all times while serving in this position.
Duty Location is Los Angeles AFB.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, a copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.
A. At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 level (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include activities such as: (1) managing and/or monitoring a comprehensive emergency management program designed to eliminate or minimize problems resulting from natural disasters and major accidents; (2) implementing readiness programs in accordance with Federal standards and guidance; (3) ensuring personnel and equipment are prepared and positioned within prescribed time limits; (4) updating medical contingency plans, incorporating the most current information; and (5) providing advice on medical emergency response procedures for situations involving enemy attacks, bioterrorist events, natural disasters, accident response, and other emergency contingencies. OR
B. Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years (54 semester hours or equivalent) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. This education demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. OR
C. An equivalent combination of the specialized experience and graduate level education described above. Note: Only education in excess of two years (36 semester hours or equivalent) is creditable toward meeting the experience requirement when combining experience and education. To determine if you qualify under this combination first divide your total months of qualifying specialized experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond two years by 18. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.
