  This announcement is for a Regular Part Time, NA-07 Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) with Fort Leavenworth's Child and Youth Services (CYS).

  Responsibilities

  
  Major Duties include, yet are not limited to:
  

  • Maintenance and minor repair of building, playground equipment, toys, and other equipment, prepares and submits work orders for repairs requiring additional expertise.
  • Conducts and documents daily safety inspections of the facility and grounds; conducting minor ground maintenance, to include, but not limited to minor gardening, removal of ice/snow, ensuring entrances/exits are free from debris, monitoring sidewalks for clear walking paths. Follows proper procedure for equipment and materials in need of disposal.
  • Drives government provided vehicle to pick up and deliver supplies and food from the original source to the facility; in the absence of dedicated kitchen personnel, incumbent will deliver and serve light meals/snacks.
  • Drives government provided bus (71 passenger) and/or 15-24 passenger vans to transport children/youth on field trips, to/from school, or accompanies children walking to school; during periods when students are out of school, ensures safe passage to and from field trip locations.
  • Ensures risk management procedures are followed.

  Qualifications

  • Position requires knowledge and skills to operate and maintain government assigned vehicles, and to make judgments concerning loading and arranging cargo on these vehicles, what routes to take, overhead and side clearance, turning radius, braking distance, and the ability to care for passengers and deal effectively with people in a hospitable manner.
  • Knowledge of reading maps when driving to unfamiliar locations.
  • Skills in defensive driving and adjusting driving conditions to road conditions and the vehicle being driven.
  • Skill and knowledge in the use of standard tools, both manual and power tools - to include outdoor lawn equipment, vacuum cleaners, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English to assure the duties described can be accomplished in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Requires a valid state driver's license.

  
  Highly Qualified: Candidates who meet the above qualifications, as well as, currently possess a valid Class B CDL, with Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake endorsement will be considered Highly Qualified and will be referred to hiring officials prior to those candidates who only meet minimum qualifications as described above. The CDL must be uploaded with application to qualified as "Highly Qualified".
