• Summary

  The selectee for this position will serve as a LIBRARY TECHNICIAN (OFFICE AUTOMATION) in the NIMITZ LIBRARY CIRCULATION DEPARTMENT of NAVACADEMY.

  Responsibilities

  The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
  

  • Assist customers with checking materials in and out of the library.
  • Perform library opening and closing procedures to maintain uninterrupted flow of service to all library customers.
  • Explain library policy and procedures to customers to answer a variety of questions.
  • Use the integrated library system (ILS) circulation module to check in and out materials.
  • Conduct inventories and weed out books which are outdated and beyond usage.

  Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  
  Work requires both close attention and the ability to perceive developing patterns affecting available space as well as independently exercising judgement to shift small parts of the collection on an ongoing basis.
  

  Qualifications

  In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.
  
  Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  
  Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting patrons in locating library resources in various formats, print and non-print; 2) Utilizing a classification system for stack (e.g., book/media) arrangement; and 3) Use Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word) to complete daily work. NOTE: THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SUPPORTED IN YOUR RESUME TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION.
  OR
  You have successfully completed four years of education above high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) to be considered for the position.
  OR
  You have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
  
  This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
