About the Agency
The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 600 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.
The incumbent serves as a Sales Specialist and is responsible for the professional display and stocking of all merchandise and sales transactions in the House Office Supply and Gift Stores.
The incumbent must follow and adhere to all applicable workplace policies, practices, and procedures, as well as provide professional level customer service and exercise sound judgment and discretion when dealing with House Members, staff, and the general public. The incumbent is responsible for taking/receiving orders from all House offices for Office Supply Store and Gift Shop merchandise and ensuring that requested items are prepared for delivery. The incumbent must maintain accurate delivery records and supply counts/inventory records, and manage floor stock/merchandise to include pricing, placement, positioning and restocking.
The incumbents pay grade and compensation level are determined based on applicable professional experience, job knowledge, past performance, and assigned level of responsibility, in comparison to local market rates of pay for equivalent criteria within the applicable discipline.
The position does not have supervisory/managerial responsibilities. Periodic overtime is required.

Duties
1. Provide superb professional customer service needed to maximize sales and keep the shops neat and well stocked. Provide friendly, courteous service and assists all Office Supply and Gift Shop customers. Ensure CAO Customer Service standards are met.
2. Communicates effectively with customers to resolve issues that impede providing required services.
3. Conduct all sales transactions in a polite, courteous manner and charges items to appropriate office accounts. Processes cash sales for non-official purchases.
4. Answer questions and inquires to include telephone requests regarding purchase prices and types of items stocked. Take/receive orders from all House offices for Sales Store merchandise and ensure that requested items are prepared for delivery. Maintain a list of all back orders and process each order upon receiving the requested merchandise.
5. Maintain appropriate files/records for Member’s district office orders and Member’s flag requests.
6. Perform cash drawer check-out as required and validate that the amount of money collected and/or received is accurate when compared to daily receipts.
7. Stock and restock merchandise on the sales floor as necessary. Apply computer generated price labels to, and inspect the condition of all items/merchandise prior to placing them on shelves or the sales floor. Ensure that stock is stored and rotated properly. Keep stock area in a neat and orderly fashion at all times.
8. Maintain accurate delivery records and verify that inventory levels are correct by conducting periodic physical reviews and reconciling counts with existing inventory records.
9. Conduct stock room duties in accordance with OSHA codes and safety regulations.
10. Assist other Sales Store personnel in applying internal practices and procedures to ensure performance is timely, responsive, and consistent with customer needs. Assist in training new employees as required.
11. Report workplace issues to management as required. Determine possible solutions to operational problems that arise in Office Supply Store and Gift Shop; and present recommendations to management for consideration.
12. Perform data entry, manipulate, and/or retrieve information and data from automated systems as required. Perform miscellaneous clerical and administrative support as needed.
13. Assist in the performance of physical inventory of merchandise based upon industry practices and customer requirements as needed.
14. Perform other official duties as assigned.
