OED Honors Paralegals get experience in government budgeting, performance assessment, project management, risk management, and planning. In the course of working in this position, OED Honors Paralegals will gain an understanding of what it takes to run a well-regarded federal agency and about Information Technology governance, data security, privacy, and cybersecurity compliance in the federal government.

Duties
Paralegals have the opportunity to become familiar with the legal, economic, and project management methodology used by professionals in the Federal Trade Commission during the course of various assignments. Specifically, OED Honors Paralegals in the Commission are expected to perform the following duties:
- Performs research using office files, library references files, corporate records, private and governmental studies, legal research databases, and other pertinent sources, to supply factual information for inclusion in memoranda, compliance reports, and similar documents.
- Uses electronic databases to assist in factual and/or legal research; retrieves and analyzes materials through data searches.
- Writes and/or edits reports, policies, and other memoranda reflecting facts, sources, citations, etc., discovered during the course of research.
- Digests substantive materials or artifacts; indexes documents in accordance with categories determined by the supervisor to whom assigned.
- Gathers information useful in assessing the impact of statutes, regulations, and Executive Orders on the agency;
- Organizes, maintains and/or archives files for teams; takes notes at meetings; creates agendas and presentations; tracks materials to be used as exhibits.
- Assists with the execution of surveys and uses the data to conduct analysis to identify trends and develop infographics.
- Develops communications and marketing materials that will be use to inform agency staff of new initiatives.
- Conducts interviews of subject matter experts (SME) to produce process workflow diagrams, along with business and technical documentation used as part of the agency’s business process redesign projects.
- Coordinates and conducts various support services as required by supervisors and team members (i.e., maintains meeting calendars; sends schedulers, copies and ships materials, coordinates transportation; assists with meeting room setups, etc.).
