Duties

This position is located in the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) of the Business Office at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) serving as a Medical Record Technician in the Release of Information (ROI) Unit expected to work closely with all members of the health care team and administration and required to periodically participate in training on Release of Information. Major duties including but not limited to:
  • Abstracting and processing medical releases of information requests;
  • Reviewing paper and computerized medical records to identify material to be photocopied/printed/written to electronic media and released;
  • Completing and processing routine releases of information to other agencies when requested;
  • Processing Social Security requests for medical information;
  • Composing and typing all forms of correspondences;
  • Monitoring the quality and quantity of work produced and ensuring adherence to applicable requirements and regulations;
  • Ensuring maintenance of GEMS requirements in accordance with established policies; and
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Core Business Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (tour of duty negotiable upon selection)
